RESUMO

In this Letter, we propose a dual-polarized coherent millimeter-wave system based on differential delta-sigma modulation (D-DSM) intended for long-distance wireless transmission in the W-band. The proposed system can transmit polarization-division-multiplexed (PDM) D-DSM signals with modulation orders up to 4194304QAM over a wireless channel for 4.6 km at a signal baud rate of 20 G. After 4.6 km of wireless transmission, we successfully achieve a bit error rate (BER) lower than the hard-decision forward error correction (HD-FEC) of 3.8 × 10-3 for 34.51 Gbit/s PDM-524288QAM and a BER lower than the soft-decision forward error correction (SD-FEC) of 4.2 × 10-2 for 32.23 Gbit/s PDM-4194304QAM.

RESUMO

Improving the adsorption performance of wetland fillers is of great significance for enhancing pollutant removal in constructed wetlands. Currently, limited by complex preparation processes and high costs, large numbers of high adsorption fillers studied in lab are difficult to be applied in practical engineering. In this study, a newly low-cost and efficient phosphorus removal composite wetland filler (CFB) is prepared by using industrial and agriculture waste (steel slag and oyster shells) and natural ore (volcanic rock) as raw materials. The results show that phosphorus removal efficiency was largely enhanced by synergistic effects of steel slag, oyster shells, and volcanic rock, and it was mainly influenced by the proportion of each component of CFB. Based on the fitting of the classical isothermal equation, the adsorption capacity of CFB is 18.339 mg/g. The adsorption of phosphorus by CFB is endothermic and spontaneous, and there are heterogeneous surfaces and multi-layer adsorption processes, as well as pH value and temperature, are free from the influence on CFB phosphorus removal. During the practical wastewater application experiments, the phosphorus removal rate of the CFB-filled constructed wetland apparatus (CW-A) can reach 94.89% and is free from the influence on the removal of other pollutants (COD, TN, and NH3-N) by the system. Overall, the prepared CFB is of excellent decontamination effect, an extremely simple preparation process, low cost, and sound practical engineering application potential, providing new ideas and approaches for enhancing the phosphorus removal capacity and waste resource utilization of constructed wetland systems.

RESUMO

The use of silicon fertilizer (SF) as a means of remediating cadmium (Cd) and lead (Pb) pollution has proven to be beneficial. However, the mechanism via which SF enhances soil quality and crop productivity under Cd- and Pb-contaminated soil (S) remains unclear. This study investigated the impacts of chemical fertilizer, mineral SF (MSF), and organic SF (OSF) on microbial community structure, activity of nutrient acquisition enzymes, and growth of tobacco in the presence of S condition. SF significantly reduced the contents of Cd and Pb in soil under S condition by 6.92-42.43% and increased plant height and leaf area by 15.27-81.77%. Moreover, the use of SF was observed to increase the efficiency of soil carbon and phosphorus cycling under S condition by 6.88-23.08%. Concurrently, SF was found to play a crucial role in facilitating the establishment of a complex, efficient, and interdependent molecular ecological network among soil microorganisms. In this context, Actinobacteriota, Bacteroidota, Ascomycota, and Basidiomycota were observed to be integral components of this network. SF was found to have a substantial positive impact on the metabolic functions and organismal systems of soil microorganisms. Moreover, the combined utilization of the Mantel test and partial least squares path model provided empirical evidence supporting the assertion that the administration of SF had a positive impact on both soil nutrient acquisition enzyme activity and tobacco growth, which was attributed to the enhancement of soil microbial diversity resulting from the application of SF. Furthermore, compared with MSF, OSF has advantages in reducing soil Pb and Cd content, promoting tobacco agronomic traits, increasing the number of key microbial communities, and maintaining the structural stability of microbial networks. The aforementioned findings, therefore, suggest that the OSF played a pivotal role in alleviating the adverse impacts of S, thereby demonstrating its efficacy in this particular process.

RESUMO

In this Letter, we propose the application of delta-sigma modulation (DSM) higher-order quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) technology in long-distance transmission of W-band wireless communication, and demonstrate, for the first time to the best of our knowledge, the wireless transmission of millimeter wave signals in the W-band based on 1-bit DSM quantization using polarization-division-multiplexed orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (PDM-OFDM) 1024QAM/4096QAM for 4.6 km. We successfully achieved a bit error rate (BER) of 40-Gbit/s PDM-OFDM 1024QAM and 48-Gbit/s PDM-OFDM 4096QAM after 4.6-km wireless transmission, both lower than the soft decision forward error correction (SD-FEC) of 4.2 × 10-2. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time that up to 4096QAM signals have been quantized and transmitted based on 1-bit DSM in a 4.6-km-long distance W-band millimeter wave system.

RESUMO

We propose a digital-delta-sigma-modulation radio-over-fiber (DDSM-RoF) scheme for wireless fronthaul and validate it experimentally in a D-band photonics-aided RoF transmission system. The 10-Gbaud DDSM-RoF signal with a common public radio interface equivalent data rate (CPRI-EDR) of 55.8 Gb/s is successfully transmitted in a 130-GHz 4.6-km wireless channel. The spectral efficiency (SE) is 5.58 bit/s/Hz and the capacity-distance product reaches 257 Gb/s·km. Up to 34.4-dB recovered signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is observed to support the 1024-quadrature-amplitude-modulation (1024-QAM) transmission. Compared with the digital-analog-RoF (DA-RoF) scheme, the proposed DDSM-RoF achieves an SNR improvement of 5.9 dB.

RESUMO

We propose and experimentally verify a photonics-aided W-band millimeter wave (MMW) radio-over-fiber (RoF) polarization-multiplexed envelope detection system for high-order quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) signals. To solve the problem of low spectral efficiency of common public radio interface (CPRI) and severe distortion of high-order QAM of envelope detection, quantization noise suppressed delta-sigma modulation (DSM) is introduced into the system. The experimental results show that the system can transmit 131072 QAM signals when meeting the error vector magnitude (EVM) requirements of 5G new radio (NR), and transmit 1048576 QAM signals when meeting the soft decision threshold (SD@20%).

RESUMO

Algal blooms have a negative impact on the safety of drinking water. Ultrasonic radiation technology is an "environment-friendly" technology that is widely used in algae removal. However, this technology leads to the release of intracellular organic matter (IOM), which is an important precursor of disinfection by-products (DBPs). This study investigated the relationship between the release of IOM in Microcystis aeruginosa and the generation of DBPs after ultrasonic radiation as well as analyzed the generation mechanism of DBPs. Results showed that the content of extracellular organic matter (EOM) in M. aeruginosa increased in the order of 740 kHz >1120 kHz >20 kHz after 2 min of ultrasonic radiation. Organic matter with a molecular weight (MW) greater than 30 kDa increased the most, including protein-like, phycocyanin (PC) and chlorophyll a, followed by small-molecule organic matter less than 3 kDa, mainly humic-like substances and protein-like. DBPs with an organic MW range of less than 30 kDa were dominated by trichloroacetic acid (TCAA), while those with an MW greater than 30 kDa had the highest trichloromethane (TCM) content. Ultrasonic irradiation changed the organic structure of EOM, affected the amount and type of DBPs, and tended to generate TCM.

RESUMO

Wild boars (Sus scrofa) are extremely common in southern China, but little study has been conducted regarding reporting the dietary habits of wild boars using high-throughput sequencing technology, especially in karst areas, due to the difficulty in obtaining stomach contents of wild boars. In our study, the stomach contents of 14 wild boars in southern China were analyzed by DNA metabarcoding. The results showed that there were 153 genera, 93 families, and 48 orders of plant food sources for wild boars. The main plant food component were Cissus, Dioscorea, Quercus, Actinidia, and Houttuynia. The most numerous taxa of animal food sources were Elaphodus, Amynthas, Chonaphe, Rattus, and Tanytarsus. It is noteworthy that Elaphodus cephalophus were detected in most of the stomach samples, accounting for a large portion of animal food sources. The results showed that there were significant differences in the diets of wild boars in different regions; however, no significant differences were noted between male and female wild boars. Our study revealed the dietary preference of wild boars under the special forest conditions in the mountainous area of southwest China, as well as the relationship between the dietary habits of wild boars and their habitats from the perspective of resource utilization, thus providing a key scientific basis for the prevention and control of wild boars, along with resource protection.

RESUMO

We experimentally demonstrate 2-Gbaud 4096-ary quadrature amplitude modulation (4096QAM) signal transmission over 2-m wireless distance at 370 GHz in a photonics-aided terahertz (THz)-wave communication system. By using one-bit quantized delta-sigma modulation (DSM) and photonics-aided technology, we successfully achieve the transmission of high-order QAM signals over THz multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) links. After 2 m of free space transmission, its bit error rate (BER) is below the 20% soft-decision forward error correction (20% SD-FEC) threshold of 2.4 × 10-2. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time to apply DSM technology in a THz MIMO link transmission.

RESUMO

We have proposed and experimentally implemented a photonics-aided large-capacity long-distance mm-wave bidirectional full-duplex communication system at the W-band based on polarization multiplexing. The same radio frequency (RF) carrier source is shared by both the uplink and the downlink, and a pair of orthomode transducers (OMTs) are used to separate the dual orthogonally polarized channels. To achieve the maximum spectrum efficiency and throughput, 10-Gbaud probabilistically shaped 256-level quadrature-amplitude-modulation (PS-256QAM) signals with 7.07 bit/symbol/Hz are transmitted in Ch. H and Ch. V. The system can support the bidirectional transmission with 103-Gbps data rate over 4600-m RF wireless distance. To the best of our knowledge, based on a photonics-aided bidirectional full-duplex system, this is the first time to realize a record-breaking bit rate-distance product at the W-band, i.e., 103 Gbps × 4.6 km = 473.8 Gbps•km.

RESUMO

We establish the theory for perfect transmodal Fabry-Perot interferometers that can convert longitudinal modes solely to transverse modes and vice versa, reaching up to 100% efficiency. Two exact conditions are derived for plane mechanical waves: simultaneous constructive interferences of each of two coupled orthogonal modes, and intermodal interference at the entrance and exit sides of the interferometer with specific skew polarizations. Because the multimodal interferences and specific skew motions require unique anisotropic interferometers, they are realized by metamaterials. The observed peak patterns by the transmodal interferometers are similar to those found in the single-mode Fabry-Perot resonance, but multimodality complicates the involved mechanics. We provide their design principle and experimented with a fabricated interferometer. This theory expands the classical Fabry-Perot resonance to the realm of mode-coupled waves, having profound impact on general wave manipulation. The transmodal interferometer could sever as a device to transfer wave energy freely between dissimilar modes.
